Hvordan kan sykepleiere bidra til mestringstro hos pasienter med ryggsmerter?

Abstract

Bakgrunn: Ryggsmerter er en av de vanligste årsakene til kontakt med helsevesen i Norge. Mennesker med ryggsmerter har større sannsynlighet for å oppleve nedsatt livskvalitet, og svekket psykisk tilstand. Pasienters forventninger til behandling av ryggsmerter samsvarer ikke nødvendigvis med nasjonale retningslinjer.

Hensikt/problemstilling: Hensikten med denne litteraturstudien er å undersøke hvordan sykepleiere kan møte pasienters forventninger slik at de opplever økt mestringstro i forbindelse med behandling.

Metode: Systematisk litteraturstudie gjennomført mellom mars 2023 og juni 2023. Oppgaven baserer seg på åtte forskningsartikler funnet gjennom systematiske søk, og analyse av disse.

Resultat: Resultatene viste at flere pasienter hadde forventninger til behandling før møte med helsevesenet. Disse forventningene førte ofte til uenighet mellom pasient og behandler. Pasientene opplevde ikke at forventningene ble møtt, og flere var kritiske til behandlingen de ble tilbudt.

Konklusjon: For å styrke pasientenes mestringstro må sykepleiere møte pasientenes forventninger til den aktuelle behandlingen. Hvis forventningene ikke samsvarer med behandlingen som tilbys, må sykepleieren undervise og veilede pasienten, og bygge relasjon gjennom sykepleierkompetanse.

Background: Back pain is one of the most common reasons for contact with the healthcare system in Norway. People with back pain are more likely to experience reduced life quality and impaired mental state. Patients’ expectations prior to treatment of back pain does not necessarily match with the national guidelines.

Aim: The purpose of this literature study is to examine how nurses can meet the patients’ expectations, and by doing so, enhance self-efficacy when receiving treatment.

Methods: Systematic literature study conducted between March 2023 and June 2023. The study is based on eight research articles found through systematic searches and the analysis of these.

Results: Results showed several patients had expectations prior to treatment before encountering health care services. These expectations often led to a disagreement between patients and the health professionals. Patients experienced their expectations not being met and were therefore critical of the treatment they were offered.

Conclusions: To strengthen the patient’s self-efficacy, nurses have to meet their expectations for the treatment in question. If the expectations do not match up with the treatment being offered, it will be the nurse’s task to teach and guide the patient, and build a relationship through nursing competence.
