Bakgrunn: Sepsis er en livstruende tilstand som rammer ca. 10 000 nordmenn årlig. Prisen for behandling av en pasient er estimert å koste samfunnet mellom $16 000 og $38 000. Tross mye fokus de siste årene viser sepsis seg fortsatt å være problematisk og den tidlige identifiseringen står sentralt for overlevelse.

Hensikt: Å belyse viktigheten av å øke kompetansen til sykepleiere i tidlig identifisering av sepsis, samt undersøke hvilke undervisningsformer som egner seg best.

Metode: En litteraturstudie ble gjennomført med et strukturert søk i databasene Cinahl Complete og PubMed for å identifisere og analysere forskningen rundt temaet.

Resultat: Det ble identifisert og inkludert 8 artikler gjennom det strukturerte søket. Resultatene ble analysert og resulterte i 4 tema som belyste punkter for utviklingen av kompetanse.

Konklusjon: Litteraturstudien viste at sykepleiere utvikler kompetansen i kombinasjon av ulike læringsmetoder. Dette inkluderer forelesninger, casestudier, e-læringskurs, kartleggingsverktøy, og ulike former for simulering.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that affects approximately 10,000 Norwegians annually. The cost of treating a patient is estimated to range between $16,000 and $38,000 for society. Despite significant focus in recent years, sepsis continues to pose challenges, and early identification is crucial for survival.

Aim of study: To highlight the importance of increasing the competence of nurses in the early identification of sepsis and to investigate the most suitable educational approaches.

Method: A literature review was conducted, with a structured search in the Cinahl Complete and PubMed databases, to identify and analyze the research on the topic.

Results: Eight articles were identified and included through the structured search. The results were analyzed and yielded four themes that highlighted key points for competence development.

Conclusion: The literature review demonstrated that nurses developed competence best through a combination of various learning methods. This included lectures, case studies, e-learning courses, assessment tools, and various forms of simulation.
