Regissørens rolle - En undersøkelse av regissøren i tradisjonelt og devised teater

Abstract

Denne oppgaven handler om regissørens rolle i tradisjonelt tekstbasert teater og devised teater. Den tar for seg et utvalg av regissører som jobber innfor begge teaterformene, og ser på hvordan de beskriver sin praksis. Deretter beskrives situasjoner fra min egen praksis som regissør i to forskjellige produksjoner, en tradisjonell tekstbasert og en devised, som så reflekteres over. Oppgaven anvender to metoder, litteraturstudie i undersøkelsen av andre regissører og «reflekterende praksis» i undersøkelsen av egen erfaring fra regiarbeid. Oppgaven bruker eksemplene fra andre regissører og refleksjonen over egen praksis for å sammenligne regissørens rolle i de to teaterformene. Denne sammenligningen viser at regissøren har en tydelig forskjellig posisjon i de to formene. En viktig grunn til dette er regissørens nære forhold til teksten, karakterisert av regissørens forarbeid med teksten, som gjennom økt kunnskap gir regissøren mer makt enn de andre aktørene i teatret.

This thesis is about the director’s role in traditional text based theatre and devised theatre. It looks at a selection of directors who work with both forms of theatre, and how they practice their craft. Then it describes situations from my own practice as a director in two different productions, one traditional text-based and one devised, which are then reflected upon. There are two methods used in this thesis, literature research in the study of other directors and reflective practice in the study of my own experiences from working with directing. The thesis uses the examples from the other directors and the reflection over my own work to compare the director’s role in the two forms of theatre. This comparison shows that the director has a different position in the two forms. An important reason for this is the directors close relation to the text, characterized by the directors preliminary work with the text which, through an increase in knowledge, gives the director more power than the other participants in the theatre.
