Om meningsutveksling rundt trykkefrihet 1797-1814

Abstract

Denne oppgaven er en analyse av meningsutvekslingen om temaet trykkefrihet og sensur rundt slutten av 1700 og frem mot 1814. Materialet som brukes er en bok som taler for trykkefriheten og en artikkel som kritiserer boken. Boken er skrevet av M. G. Birckner og artikkelen av J. F. W. Schlegel. I tillegg vil analysen se på fire ulike grunnlovsutkast som ble skrevet i forkant av riksforsamlingen på Eidsvoll i 1814. Analysen forsøker å besvare spørsmålet «hvilke syn på trykkefrihet fremmer de ulike aktørene?» Oppgaven består av hovedsakelig to deler. Den første er en innledende del, og den andre er selve analysen. I den første delen vil jeg komme inn på metoden, som vil være en diskursanalytisk tilnærming brukt i oppgaven, temaets historiografi og den historiske konteksten. I den andre delen av oppgaven vil jeg først se nærmere på tekstene til Birckner og Schlegel. Hvilke syn deler de og på hvilke områder står de ulikt? Deretter vil jeg redegjøre for de fire grunnlovsutkastene. Her vil jeg hovedsakelig se om det finnes spor etter Birckner og Schlegel i utkastene. I tillegg vil analysen se på hvilke måter forfatterne av utkastene skiller seg ut fra de to tidligere talsmennene.

This paper is an analysis of the exchange of views on the subject of freedom of press from the late 18th century and up to 1814. The material used is a book in favour of freedom of speech, and an article that criticizes the book. The book is written by M. G. Birckner and the article is by J. F. W. Schlegel. The analysis will also look at four different drafts for a constitution that was written ahead of the National Assembly at Eidsvoll in 1814. The analysis means to answer the question “which views on the freedom of press does the different contributors promote?” The paper consists of mainly two parts. The first is an introductory part, and the second is the analysis itself. In the first part I will present the method, this being a discourse analytical approach, used in the paper, the subjects historiography, and the historical context. In the second part of the paper, I will have a closer look at the texts by both Birckner and Schlegel. Which views do they share, and in what way do they separate from each other? Thereafter I will clarify for the four drafts. Here I will mainly discuss if we can find traces of Birckner og Schlegel in the drafts. In addition, the analysis will look at which ways the authors of the drafts distinguishes themselves from the two advocates.
