Sammendrag

Denne masteroppgaven har sine røtter i min bakgrunn som ansatt i kulturavdelingen til Bjørnafjorden kommune, hvor jeg første gang ble bevisst på de store samlingene av kulturhistoriske gjenstander som kommunen forvalter. Som et resultat av min undring over disse samlingene og empiri fra en prosjektoppgave i emnet KULMI3815 Dokumentasjon og forskningsmetode: «Det er behov for mer kunnskap om samlinger av kulturhistoriske gjenstander i kommunenes forvaltning», ble temaet for masteroppgaven lagt. Jeg undersøker derfor nærmere landskapet av kulturhistoriske gjenstander som befinner seg mellom de to forvaltningsområdene museumssamlingsforvaltning og kommunal kulturmiljøforvaltning i Bjørnafjorden og Øygarden kommuner samt Hordaland. Gjennom oppgaven tydeliggjør jeg de to forvaltningsområdene for å synliggjøre mellomrommet mellom dem.

Oppgavens empiri er basert på kvalitative intervju, feltarbeid og arkivsøk i Bjørnafjorden og Øygarden kommuner, samt intervju-svar fra prosjektoppgaven min. Undersøkelsen min viser at det finnes et komplekst samlingslandskap av kulturhistoriske gjenstander i kommunal forvaltning, og på den måten tilfører jeg ny forskning til et felt som er lite undersøkt fra før.

Abstract

This master thesis originates from my background as an employee in the cultural department of Bjørnafjorden municipality, where I first became aware of the large collections of cultural and historical objects that the municipality manages. As a result of my curiosity and wonder about these collections and empirical evidence from a project assignment in the subject KULMI3815 Documentation and research method: «Det er behov for mer kunnskap om samlinger av kulturhistoriske gjenstander i kommunenes forvaltning», the theme for the master thesis was set. I therefore chose to examine in deeper detail the landscape of cultural historical objects that are located between the two management areas of museum collection management and municipal cultural heritage management in Bjørnafjorden and Øygarden municipalities as well as Hordaland. Through the thesis, I clarify the two management areas in order to make visible the space between them.

This paper’s empirical evidence is based on qualitative interviews, fieldwork and archive searches in Bjørnafjorden and Øygarden municipalities, as well as interview responses from my project paper. My investigations demonstrate that there is a complex collection landscape of cultural-historical objects in municipal management, and in this way I add new research to a field that has been scarcely investigated before.
