Speil og refleksjon om stil

Abstract

Temaet og problemstillingen i denne bacheloroppgaven er å demonstrere om og hvordan et bestemt speil kategorisert som empirestil fra Sverresborg Folkemuseum kan tilhøre denne stilen. Oppgavens formål er å gi en mer detaljert analyse og forklaring av et objekt som er bevart i dette museet, og ved dette hjelpe med forståelsen av objektets historie og sammenhengen det inngår i en klassifisering. Jeg vil utføre en detaljert form- og ikonografisk analyse av dette speilet ved hjelp av mine kunnskaper i tremøbelsnekkering og relevant litteratur om speil. Dette fører til teori om Apolloguden, og en sammenligning med de kassiske trekk. Derfra går jeg gjennom stilhistorien på 1800-tallet for å vise frem hvilke stiler og trekk dette speilet kan ha blitt inspirert av. Deretter vil jeg undersøke den historiske konteksten og stilene som kan ha påvirket utformingen av speilet. Til slutt konkluderer jeg om at dette speilet kan klassifiseres som empirestil.

The theme and problem statement of this bachelor's thesis is to demonstrate whether and how a particular mirror categorized as empire style from the Sverresborg FolkMuseum can belong to this style. The purpose of the thesis is to provide a more detailed analysis and explanation of an object preserved in this museum, and thereby help with the understanding of the object's history and its context in a classification. I intend to perform a detailed formal and iconographic analysis of this mirror using my knowledge of woodworking and relevant literature on mirrors. This leads to a theory about the god Apollo, and a comparison with classical features. From there, i will go through the style history of the 19th century to showcase which styles and features this mirror may have been inspired by. Then, i will investigate the historical context and styles that may have influenced the design of the mirror. Finally, i will conclude with that this mirror can be classified as empire style.
