Skrekkelige kvinner – En analyse av karakteren Alexia i Titane (2021)

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven skal analysere karakteren Alexia i Titane (Ducournau 2021) ved bruk av Barbara Creeds definisjon av kvinner som monster (monstrous-feminine). Ved å studere noen utvalgte scener fra filmen, diskuteres Alexias monstrøse egenskaper ut ifra tolkninger av blikk og forestillinger om avsky. Barbara Creed sine to bokutgivelser er sentrale for oppgavens undersøkelse, i tillegg til begreper om blikk fra Mulvey, McGowan og Moss. Alexia har blitt tolket ut av disse begrepene og teoriene, og forstått som en kvinnelig protagonist som gjør opprør mot patriarkalske strukturer. Selv om Alexia har blitt tolket og forstått som en kvinnelig protagonist i denne oppgaven, tar karakteren også et oppgjør med forestillinger av kjønn og kropp. Oppgavens overordnede mål er å diskutere endringer i representasjon av kvinner i film i lys av deres avskyelige egenskaper.

This bachelor thesis will analyze the character Alexia in Titane (Ducournau 2021) using Barbara Creed's definition of women as monsters (monstrous-feminine). By studying some selected scenes from the film, Alexia's monstrous characteristics are discussed based on interpretations of the gaze and notions of abjection. Barbara Creed's two book publications are central to this thesis' research, in addition to concepts of the gaze from Mulvey, McGowan and Moss. Alexia has been interpreted through these concepts and theories, and understood as a female protagonist who revolts against patriarchal structures. Even though Alexia is interpreted as a female protagonist, her character challenges the concept of identification through the body. The assignment's overall aim is to discuss the changes in representation of women in film in light of abjection.
