Fra Beatmaker til Producer - En Fordypning i Hiphop-vokal

Abstract

Hvor enkelt er det egentlig å spille inn rapvokal? Strengt tatt trenger man kun en mikrofon og et opptaksmedium. Likevel skiller de beste produsentene seg betraktelig ut fra mengden, eller er det bare et sammentreff siden de jobber med de største artistene? I denne avhandlingen skal vi se nærmere på hvilke utfordringer som kan dukke opp ved vokalproduksjon innen hiphop-sjangeren, hvilke teknikker som brukes og hvordan man eventuelt kan tilrettelegge for å forenkle prosessen. Prosjektet bygger på en selvkomponert EP som vil få tittelen "Hubris", men vi ser i stor grad bort fra arbeidet som ligger bak instrumentalene, og fokuserer på innspilling og miksing av vokalspor.

How easy is it really to record rap vocals? Strictly speaking, all you need is a microphone and a recording device. Still, the top producers stand out considerably from the crowd, or is it just a coincidence since they work with the biggest artists? In this thesis, we will take a closer look at the challenges that may arise in vocal production within the hip-hop genre, what techniques are used and how one can possibly facilitate to simplify the process. The project is based on a self-composed EP that will be titled "Hubris", but we largely disregard the work that goes into the instrumentals and focus on recording and mixing vocal tracks.
