dc.description.abstract | In this project I have explored what my sound as a beat maker is through working with sampling. The project resulted in a beat tape, a collection of instrumental hip-hop songs. I have delved into sampling as a tradition and method, and then defined what sampling means in my creative process. The project has provided me with insights into my own approach and has deepened my understanding of my musical taste and influences. It is what I, as a beat maker, choose to do with the source material, along with the choices of what kind of source material I use, that contribute to shaping my sound as a beat maker.
