Ivaretakelse av psykisk helse ved barnevernsinstitusjoner. Er tilnærmingen for barnets beste?

Abstract

Denne Bacheloroppgaven handler om ivaretakelse av psykisk helse ved barnevernsinstitusjoner. I 2021 utgjorde plassering i barnevernsinstitusjon kun 7% av alle plasseringer utenfor hjemmet, etter barnevernets intensjon om å redusere bruken av institusjoner. Inspirasjonen til oppgavens tema har vært kritikkverdige saker omtalt i media; «Ti barn har dødd under barnevernets omsorg, flere av dem i selvmord» (Moland, 2023). Kunnskapsgrunnlaget legger vekt på Barnevernsfaglige prinsipp, Miljøterapi og AART (Adapted Aggression Replacement Training). Metoden som er brukt er litteraturstudium. Oppgaven vil i lys av faglitteratur, publiserte artikler og forskning drøfte hvordan barnevernspedagogen arbeider og hvorvidt tilnærmingen er for barnets beste. Oppgaven tar også for seg forekomsten av psykiske vansker hos barn og unge ved barnevernsinstitusjon, og viser til forskningsrapporten av Kayed et al. (2015), hvor 76% av barn og unge oppga at de hadde en psykisk lidelse, hvorav kun 38% av dem hadde fått hjelp fra spesialhelsetjenesten.

This Bachelor thesis is about safeguarding mental health in child welfare institutions. In 2021, the placements in child welfare institutions accounted for only 7% out of all out-of-home placements, following the child welfare services intention to reduce the use of institutions. The inspiration for the topic of the thesis has been critical matters discussed in the media; "Ten children have died under the care of the child welfare services, several of them by suicide" (Moland, 2023). The knowledge base emphasizes child welfare professional principles, environmental therapy and AART (Adapted Aggression Replacement Training). The method used is literature study. In the light of specialist literature, published articles and research, the assignment will discuss how the child welfare educators works and whether the approach is in the best interest of the child. The assignment also deals with the occurrence of psychological difficulties among children and youth in child welfare institutions, and refers to the research report by Kayed et al. (2015), where 76% of children and youth stated that they had a mental disorder, of which only 38% had received help from the specialist health service.
