Kompetanse og kommunikasjon hos sosialarbeidere i møte med personer med ulik kulturell bakgrunn

Abstract

Mangfoldig samfunn, kan føre til utfordringer med sosiale og økonomiske forskjeller som følge av overrepresentasjon av etniske minoriteter innenfor velferdssystemet. Denne oppgaven går i dybden av hva slags kommunikativ kompetanse sosialarbeidere trenger i møte med personer med ulik kulturell bakgrunn. Oppgaven er teoretisk og basert på litteratursøk som metode. Denne oppgaven er bygget på teori om migrasjon og flyktning, minoritetsperspektiver, kulturens betydning, kommunikasjon og relasjon i sosialt arbeid. Drøftingen illustrerer at opparbeidelse av god kulturkompetanse hos sosialarbeideren er essensielt for å bedre relasjoner med klienter fra ulike kulturer. Videre er det viktig å finne balansen for kulturbevissthet, der innvandrere opplever at deres egen kultur blir ivaretatt, selv i møte med forventninger om å tilpasse seg nye normer og verdier for inkludering i samfunnet. Riktig kommunikasjon er også en nøkkelfaktor i sosialtjenesten slik at opparbeiding av en trygg og imøtekommende relasjon med klienten er av stor verdi. Slik kan arbeidet med å kommunisere uten frykt for diskriminering bli best mulig og bidra til et mer inkluderende, forståelsesfullt samfunn der mangfold og forskjellighet blir anerkjent og verdsatt.

The diversity of society can lead to challenges in social and economic differences. One such challenge is the over-representation of ethnic minorities within the welfare system. This thesis delves into the communicative competence that social workers need when interacting with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. The assignment is theoretical and based on a literature search as a research method. The thesis draws on theories of migration and refugee minority perspectives, the importance of culture, communication, and relationships in social work. The discussion demonstrates that developing good cultural competence in social workers is essential to building positive relationships with clients from different cultures. Furthermore, it is crucial to strike a balance in cultural awareness where immigrants feel that their own culture is respected, even in the face of expectations to conform to new norms and values for inclusion in society. Effective communication is also a critical factor in social services as building a safe and welcoming relationship with the client is of great value. Creating a space where communication can take place without fear of discrimination. Who will contribute to foster a more inclusive and understanding society that recognizes and values diversity.
