With equal emphasis on vocal freedom and expression, Fitzmaurice Voicework® (FV) is a comprehensive approach to voice that aims for inner somatic listening as well as communication both on stage and in life. In this chapter, I discuss a Performance as Research (PAR) study that stems from my transformative experience with FV. The research question that the PAR wished to investigate was how intuitive performance practice can contribute to the emergence and dissemination of new knowledge on the transformative potentialities of voice through FV. The objective was to also explore multimodal ways of disseminating the research process and its transformative potentialities based on how the FV practice integrates the physical, emotional, intellectual and vocal body. As a result, this chapter draws from the sharing of my PAR In front of me at the 5th FV Conference (Rose Bruford College, London, July 20–24, 2018). My reflective discussion combines theoretical ideas that underlie FV with research methods employed in autoethnography, intuitive inquiry and Jungian-inspired phenomenology. Bringing these theories in direct relation to my practice and complementary audio-visual material, I propose a multimodal and somatically-led research methodology that can offer significant insights on the transformative perspectives of voice.en_US
