Krigsseilernes historie, fortalt på museum

Abstract

Denne oppgaven handler om hvordan krigsseilernes historie blir formidlet på norske museum. I den forbindelse blir krigsseilerne fra både første og andre verdenskrig inkludert. Formidlingsformen det fokuseres på er utstillingene, men andre formidlingstilbud blir også behandlet. Studieobjektene for denne undersøkelsen er Bergens Sjøfartsmuseum og Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum. Gjennom en utstillingsanalyse av basisutstillingene og intervjuer med ansatte ved disse institusjonene, forsøker oppgaven blant annet å finne svaret på hvorfor disse museene har valgt å formidle krigsseilernes historie, hvilke formidlingsformer de bruker, hvordan krigsseilernes historie framstilles og formidles i utstillingene, og hvilke temaer som tas opp. I den forbindelse blir Bergens Sjøfartsmuseum og Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum sammenliknet for å finne likheter og forskjeller i hvordan krigsseilertematikken blir presentert ved museene. I tillegg blir analyseresultatene satt inn i en større sammenheng hvor det ses nærmere på hva funn fra analysen kan fortelle om hvordan museene forholder seg til sine samfunnsroller.

This thesis is about how the history of war sailors is conveyed in Norwegian museums. In this context, the war sailors from both the First and Second World Wars are included. The form of mediation that is focused on is the exhibitions, but other forms of mediation are also included. The objects of the study for this examination are Bergens Sjøfartsmuseum and Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum. Through an exhibition analysis of the main exhibitions and interviews with employees at these institutions, the thesis tries to find the answer to, among other things, why these museums have chosen to convey the history of the war sailors, which forms of mediation they use, how the history of the war sailors is presented and conveyed in the exhibitions, and which themes are communicated. In this context, Bergens Sjøfartsmuseum and Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum are compared to find similarities and differences in how the history of war sailors is presented at the museums. In addition, the analysis results are placed in a larger context where a closer look is taken at what findings from the analysis can tell about how the museums relate to their social roles.
