Resultatene viser at distribuerte energiressurser vil påvirke distribusjonsnettet i stor grad.
With an increasing amount of energy production and demand in the distribution grid, Distribution System Operators face challenges related to both planning and operation of the grid. Higher peak-loads and network elements with unpredictable consumption and/or demand leaves traditional methods insufficient. Distributed Energy Resources such as small-scale PV systems, batteries and Electric Vehicles will have a great impact on the distribution grid. They can offer flexibility services to the Distribution System Operator, which can delay or annihilate the need for costly grid reinforcements. To access the flexibility services Distributed Energy Resources offer, the distribution grid has to become a Smart Grid. This will involve the development of new frameworks, regulations, stakeholders, control techniques, and operation methods. This thesis is related to the establishment of a Transition Strategy for Smart Grids. Current technology is investigated to determine how such a transition can be made possible. Historical and empirical challenges are reviewed to identify guidelines for development of a holistic Transition Strategy for Smart Grids. The guidelines are given based on results obtained through the use of simulations of future scenarios for the distribution grids developed by CINELDI. A data model written in Python is used and further extended to simulate various scenarios. The results show Distributed Energy Resources will impact the distribution grid greatly. The flexibility services they provide can aid in the operation of the grid, assuming that the Distribution Grid Operator can access them through aggregation or flexibility markets. The Distribution Grid Operator will benefit from prosumers staying connected to the grid, which can be achieved by an alignment of the prosumers' and the operators objectives. Stationary batteries and Electric Vehicles are found to be especially beneficial to the operation of the grid, both due to the possibility of load-shifting and the symbiotic properties when paired with other Distributed Energy Resources.
