Jazzdansarar i Noreg i 2022

Abstract

Denne oppgåva har som formål å undersøkje korleis nyutdanna innan jazzdans opplever sjangeren, moglegheitene deira på arbeidsmarknaden, samt korleis dei opplever jazzdansen sin plass i dansefeltet i dag. Sjangeren sin popularitet, utvikling og relevans står sentralt i korleis denne oppgåva forsøk å kartleggje kva oppfatninga av jazzdansen er blant dei som praktisera den. I tillegg har pandemien som starta i 2020 påverka marknaden både for utøvande dansarar og dansepedagogar, og denne oppgåva prøvar å fatte korleis.

Fleire intervju har vorte gjennomførte med informantar som relativt nyleg har avslutta studiane sine i jazzdans, for å mellom anna samle inn data og informasjon om den noverande arbeidssituasjonen deira. I desse intervjua vert det også stilt spørsmål kring informantane si oppleving av sjangeren, opplevde moglegheiter innan arbeidsmarknaden, noverande arbeidssituasjon og erfaringane deira med å jobbe i yrket som baserer seg på utdanninga deira.

Oppgåva presenterer deretter ei analytisk tilnærming til funna og set dei saman med korleis annan litteratur ordlegg seg om sjangeren, dansefeltet og arbeidsmarknaden, samt å legge fram ei samanfatta oppfatning av dataa som vert samla inn. Svara som blir gitt av informantane brukast til å jobbe mot ei forståing av situasjonen som forskingsspørsmålet er ute etter å finne ut av.

Oppgåva kjem fram til at det ser ut til å vere ein pressa situasjon for dansarar i feltet i dag, der arbeidsmoglegheitene opplevast som få, økonomien er ustabil og at det ofte er ein uføreseieleg arbeidskvardag. Ytterlegare dannar resultata eit bilete av ein sjanger som tar mindre plass på scena enn det talet på utdanna dansarar innan sjangeren skulle tilsei.

This submission is tasked with investigating how recent graduates within jazz dance are experiencing their genre, work opportunities, and their observations of the field as it is today. The popularity of the genre, its development and relevance are the central aspects in this paper’s delineation of how jazz dance is perceived by those who practice it. Additionally, as the pandemic that began in 2020 has greatly affected many facets of society, this thesis attempts to discern the scope of, and how it has impacted the dancers and dance pedagogues.

A series of interviews have been conducted with informants that recently ended their studies within jazz dance, to collect data and information regarding their current state. These interviews pertain to the informants’ experience of the genre, their perceived possibilities within the labor market, current work engagements and their experience of working within fields that base themselves on a dance education.

The submission subsequently presents an analytical approach to the results of the interviews, and connects the findings with relevant literature, as well as providing a summarized perception of the data that has been gathered. The responses of the informants is used to work towards an understanding of the situation that the problem statement attempts to address.

Concluding the study, the submission finds that the dancers seems to be operating within a pressured environment; with few job opportunities, an unstable personal economic situation and an unpredictable working day. Furthermore, the resulting information depicts the jazz dance genre as waning in popularity, and receiving a lesser amount of attention upon the cultural stage than one would expect based upon the apparent number of dancers belonging to the genre.
