dc.description.abstract | Denne masteroppgaven tar for seg digitalisering i eksportbransjen for sjømat i Norge. Oppgaven
utviklet spesifikt for deres behov?
Intervjuene gir god oversikt over løsninger som brukes i dag,
I tillegg identifiseres
prosesser vil bli automatisert. | |
dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis addresses digitization in the seafood export industry of Norway. There are
three main parts of the thesis. Firstly, the market is explored and current business systems and
technologies are identified. Furthermore, it explores the advantages and disadvantages of the
current systems and strategies. The last part probes further into companies’ self-views of what
improvements are possible and how this may be accomplished. This section focuses on system
architecture, design, and functionality of business systems. Finally, it maps the industry needs
for technological change related to the degree of technological acceptance and maturity for
change. Regarding technological changes, the thesis contains an assessment of what value an
implementation of a new and improved business system will be able to create companies in
the industry. The discussion and conclusion in the thesis focus on small companies. The thesis
focuses on four key topics related to the issue;
1. Which business systems exist today, and which critical functions are missing or are
insufficient?
2. When developing a new business system, specifically for small businesses, what kind of
functions and properties should the system consist of?
3. Regarding the willingness to change and technological acceptance, is the industry ripe for
technological change, and how can any changes be implemented?
4. What kind of take will small businesses be able to obtain by implementing a new business
system, specifically developed based on their needs?
Both the technical aspect of the business system and the experiential aspect of the individual
users that have been interviewed are considered. To obtain the best understanding of how a new
business system can be developed and put into use, it is important to consider the human factor
and not just the technical details in terms of design.
The evidence cited in this work is based on a round of interviews with seven different companies
in the industry. These companies have in common that they export seafood and use computer
systems to perform their daily work tasks. A qualitative in-depth interview has been conducted
by one representative from each company. The interviews give a quality overview of existing
systems in use, views on the development of new adapted business systems to the industry and
technological attitudes. An introduction to the industry and its legal requirements, construction
of ERP-systems, blockchain technology, change processes and technological acceptance as well
as innovation and value creation forms the theoretical framework for further discussion in the
thesis.
The findings in the thesis identify a great need to develop industry-specific business systems
aimed at small businesses. A large part of the small companies uses multiple different systems
which are not adapted to their work tasks. The consequence of this reality is the use of extra
time and reduction to completing repetitive tasks manually. Additionally, due to the lack of
integration amongst industry systems, there is the additional work created in requiring transfer of
data across systems manually. Furthermore, the findings identify key features and characteristics
that should be integrated into a new business system. A combination of these findings with open
APIs to third-party data providers, value chain actors, external systems, and niche solutions, is
the basis of the development of the proposed business system. In addition, blockchain technology
is identified as a potential industry revolution where the entire value chain from sea to plate can
be integrated. Finally, the desire among the majority of companies in the industry to develop a
new and better system has been clearly identified. The findings suggest that this could give the
companies great business value, first and foremost by saving time by automating more tasks and
processes. | |
