Integrated energy design is a new approach method to architectural design in which a general aim of making a building more energetically and coast efficient is driven by acknowledging the different systems that take place during the design face which are usually consider separate. For the design to be effective it must work in coherence with the context and the users from the beginning stages of the design process and sustain itself on time, therefore achieving an integrated energy design.

This master thesis develops a design project located in Klostergata 56 in the city of Trondheim, Norway. That through simulation programs approach different passive and active design strategies and their implications on the energy consumption of the building traying to achieve an energy goal. For this thesis the project goal was achieving a ZEB-O÷EQ ambition. This level of ambition stands for “Emissions related to all energy use for operation "O", except energy use for equipment and appliances (EQ) shall be compensated for with renewable energy generation.” According to (ZEB) the research center on zero emission buildings.

However, the process came to an end in which some decision makings are done by intangibles like culture leaving an open discussion such as where does the energetically and coast efficient decision stops and the aesthetics decisions start and the extend of these implications regarding energy consumption. Due to this project appeal to Urban integration through Trondheim’s urban color palette.
