| dc.description.abstract | Denne teksten undersøker forholdet mellom musikk og poltikk i basilikaen San Marco på 1500-tallet. Oppgaven består av to hoveddeler, som er avhengig av hverandre for å kunne se den røde tråden (musikkens funksjon i statlig-religiøs representasjon) i helheten av besvarelsen på en best mulig måte. Første delen gir en generell informasjon om staten Venezia og basilikaen San Marco. Historisk og hierarkisk perspektiv er satt i lys, samtidig utfordringer arkitekturen hadde for akustikken. Denne delen bidrar til en bedre forståelse av temaet og selve problemstillingen senere i oppgaven. Andre delen av oppgaven, omhandler musikk som er tett forbundet med Venetiansk politikk. Motetter skrevet spesielt for venetianske doger, ombygging av basilikaen i forbindelse med musikalsk fremføringsteknikk, musikk stykker skrevet for venetianske høytider og stykker som refererer til historiske hendelser. Musikken bidro til å vise republikkens makt også i prosesjoner og gjennom instrumentalmusikken.

| dc.description.abstract | This text examines the relationship between music and politics in basilica of San Marco in the 1500s. This task consists of two main parts, that are dependent of each other to understand the essence (the function of music in state-religious representation) of the task in the best possible way. The first part gives general information about the state of Venice and the basilica of San Marco. Historical and hierarchical perspective is presented, at the same time as challenges architecture had with acoustics. This part helps to understand the topic later on in this task. The second part of this task explains the music connection to Venetian politics. Motets written for venetian doges, remodeling of the basilica in relation to music performance, music pieces written for venetian holidays and music pieces referencing to historical moments. The music contributed to display the power of the republic in processions and instrumental music.
