Research is showing that more and more children, all the way down to elementary school have challenges with their mental health. Most children in Norway spend much of their time at school, and so does children with psychological health issues too. This thesis will argue the importance of cooperation across professional disciplines in elementary school, in order to identify issues early and prevent a negative development of children`s psychological health. Litterature and research have been used to enlighten how teachers and environmental therapists, through active cooperation, can identify children`s challenges and psychological problems early. And then preventing them to from escalating further. This thesis will also describe factors which might influence the cooperation across disciplines in both positive and negative ways. The results indicate that a cooperation between an environmental therapist and a teacher could aid and support conflicted children in the school system. This by providing beneficial coping experiences, modeling healthy relationships and trough increased knowledge of mentalt health. Professional multi-discipline cooperation in school, is an activity which must be prioritized in order for it to work, and to do this, time is required. The teachers and environmental therapists need to free up more time to discuss challenges, share experience and work across disciplines. In addition, the role of the environmental therapists in school needs to be clarified, like other professions. Currently there is no legal requirement for the schools to employ environmental therapists, hence the school management can decide whether to prioritize this or not. A consequence of this, is that children with problems might not be given the necessary help at a sufficient early stage, and hence their problems might escalate further.
