Hvorfor varierer strømprisen regionalt i Norge?

Abstract

Formålet med denne oppgaven er å se på strømprisene regionalt, og finne sammenhenger mellom variasjoner i strømprisene. Vi vil se på samtlige av Norges strømsoner, og inn i den analytiske delen vil vi ha fokus på regionene Oslo og Tromsø. Det blir brukt informasjon og data samlet fra NVE, Statnett, Statkraft og NordPool, samt andre mindre sekundærkilder.

Vi vil starte oppgaven med en introduksjon, for videre å dra inn samfunnsøkonomiske teorier. Vi utreder en teoretisk analyse, og ser på variabler som ikke blir brukt i de analytiske modellene. Dette på grunn av manglende data i den satte perioden, eller at dataen ikke tilfredsstiller forutsetningene for en vellykket multippel regresjonsanalyse. Videre vil datamateriale samlet fra NordPool og NVE bli brukt i den analytiske modellen vår, som baserer seg på OLS-regresjon.

Her blir det tatt i bruk to avhengige variabler, Oslo og Tromsø. Disse vil bli analysert alene og sammenlignet opp mot hverandre. Vi vil videre utføre hypotesetester for å se om dataen holder, og hvordan disse kan korrelere med den satte avhengige variabelen.

Resultatet fra regresjonsanalysen viser til påvirkningskraften til de uavhengige variablene. Det oppstår også problemer som vil bli forklart i et eget delkapittel, som tar for seg svakheter og kritikk av datamaterialet som er oppsamlet. Konklusjonen i oppgaven er at strømprisene blir påvirket av utenlandsmarkedet og værvariasjoner, som er med på å skape de forskjellige strømprisene regionalt. Det er også flaskehalser i strømnettet, som hindrer fri flyt av strøm mellom prissonene, som øker forskjellene mellom soner som eksporterer og soner som importerer strøm.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the price of electricity regionally in Norway, and to find out why there are differences in the spot price. We will look at the five different price zones, and in the analytical part of the thesis, we focus on the areas around Oslo and Tromsø. There will be used data from NVE, Statnett, Statkraft and NordPool in particular, in addition to other secondary sources.

We will start with an introduction, and then look at relevant economic theories. We will establish a theoretical analysis and look at variables that could not be used in the analytical model. This is because of missing data in the period we have collected data from, or because the data did not fulfil the conditions for a successful multiple regression analysis. Further, we will collect data from NordPool and NVE, and use this data in the analytical model, based on OLS-regression.

We have applied two dependent variables, Oslo and Tromsø. These will be analysed alone and compared to each other. We will perform hypothesis tests to see if the data is significant, and if there is a correlation with the dependent variables chosen.

The results from the regression analysis shows the effect from the independent variables. There are also problems in the regression model, that we will explain further in a separate subchapter, that will explain weaknesses and critics to the data material that has been collected. The conclusion of the thesis is that the electricity prices are affected by the foreign market and the weather variation, and this is the most prominent factor`s responsible for the different electricity prices regionally. There are also bottlenecks, which prohibits the free flow of electricity between the different price zones. These bottlenecks increase the differences between zones that exports electricity, and the zones that has more import.
