Signaling

Abstract

Denne oppgaven utforsker ideene og konseptene bak prosjektet mitt med tittelen Signalering. Signalering er et prosjekt bygget på fellesskap, samarbeid og møte. Den er laget i samarbeid med mycelet av østerssopp, fem kvinnelige dansere, lydkunstner Øystein Fjledbo, designer Natalie Harris, kokk Heidi Bjerkan, en gruppe kvinnelige strikkere, mange borgerforskere på youtube, og publikum. Jeg bruker sopp som fysisk og metaforisk grunnlag for prosjektet og jobber med det for å utforske ideer om kommunikasjon, møte, omsorg og gjensidig støtte som modellert av rollen til mycel på planeten. Dette prosjektet ligger i skjæringspunktet mellom kunstnerisk forskning og vitenskap. Den refererer til økologiske, teoretiske og antropologiske tekster mens den låner metoder og praksis innen områdene design, lydkunst, traumehelbredelse og samtidskoreografi. Elementer av dette prosjektet vises samtidig på fire arenaer – Vitensenteret, Trondheim Kunsthall, Kjøpsmannsgata Ung Kunst og Nils Aas Kunstverksted – og er en kuratert del av Meta.morf, Trondheim International Biennale for Art and Technology, med temaet denne år er 'økofili'. I dette essayet fokuserer jeg på verket som er omtalt i Meta.morf og vist på Vitensenteret, som inkluderer installasjon, lydkunst og performance, og på Trondheim Kunsthall hvor det blir én forestilling med mobile lydskulpturer.

This thesis explores the ideas and concepts behind my project entitled Signaling. Signaling is a project built on community, collaboration, and encounter. It is made in collaboration with the mycelium of oyster mushrooms, five female dancers, sound artist Øystein Fjledbo, designer Natalie Harris, chef Heidi Bjerkan, a group of female knitters, many citizen scientists on youtube, and the audience. I use fungi as physical and metaphorical foundation of the project and work with it to explore ideas of communication, encounter, caregiving, and mutual systems of support as modeled by the role of mycelium on the planet. This project lies in the intersection of artistic research and science. It references ecological, theoretical, and anthropological texts while borrowing methods and practices in the areas of design, sound art, trauma-healing, and contemporary choreography. Elements of this project are concurrently on view at four venues—Vitensenteret, Trondheim Kunsthall, Kjøpsmannsgata Ung Kunst, and Nils Aas Kunstverksted—and is a curated part of Meta.morf, the Trondheim International Biennale for art and Technology, the theme of which this year is ‘Ecophilia’. In this essay I focus on the work featured in Meta.morf and shown at the Vitensenteret, which includes the installation, sound art, and performance, and at Trondheim Kunsthall where there will be one performance with mobile sound sculptures.
