Mulige konsekvenser av tvangsbruk i barne- og ungdomspsykiatrien

Abstract

Temaet denne oppgaven skal ta for seg er tvangsbruk i barne- og ungdomspsykiatrien, og skal gå mer spesifikt inn på konsekvensene av tvangsbruk. Dette er ett litteraturstudie der informasjon blir hentet fra en rekke ulike artikler og bøker. Bakgrunn for valg av tema er forfatterens egen erfaring med arbeid som miljøterapeut i BUP. Det blir først undersøkt større teoretiske temaer, deriblant resiliens, tvang og traumer. Dette blir deretter diskutert opp mot empiriske studier som sier noe om omfang av tvangsbruk i BUP. Konsekvensene av tvang ser ut til å være et resultat av flere ulike eksterne og interne faktorer, og varierer fra sak til sak og pasient til pasient. Det viser seg å være vanskelig å peke på en-til-en årsaks-virknings forhold, og dermed vanskelig å bekrefte spesifikke utfall som konsekvensene av tvangsbruk. Mulige konsekvenser blir utforsket, der PTSD, komorbide tilstander, og skjevutvikling virker som mulige utfall. Svakheter ved oppgaven og behov for videre forskning blir diskutert.

The theme of this assingsment is the use of coercion in child- and youth psychiatry, and will more specifically focus on the consequences of coercion. This is a systemic literature study where information is gathered from a variety of different scholarly articles and books. The background for the choice of the theme of this study is the authors own experience in working in child- and youth psychiatry. First, larger theoretical themes will be explored, among them being resilience, coercion and trauma. This is discussed in light of empirical studies which explains the magnitude of coercion used in child- and youth psychiatry. The consequences of coercion seems to be a result of different external and internal factors, which varies on a case-by-case and patient-by-patient basis. It’s difficult to point to a one-to-one cause-causation relationship, and thus it is difficult to identify clear and specific consequences of coercion with certainty. Possible consequences are explored, with PTSD, comorbid conditions and maldevelopment seeming to be possible outcomes. Weaknesses in the assignment and the need for further research is discussed.
