Ungdom og rusmiddelbruk - I lys av Bourdieus teorier

Abstract

I denne oppgaven ønsker jeg å belyse temaet ungdom og rusmiddelbruk. Jeg ser på strukturelle forhold ved ungdom og reflekterer over dette i lys av teoretikeren Pierre Bourdieu sine teorier om kapital og habitus. Jeg belyser problemstillingen ved å bruke allerede eksisterende forskning og litteratur på området. Forskning og litteratur peker på at ungdom blir påvirket av foreldrene sin kapital. Dette er i form av at ungdommer med lav kapital i noen deler av samfunnet kan ønske å tilegne seg mer kapital ved å ta del i andre deler av samfunnet. Foreldrene sin kapital påvirker også i form av habitusen ungdommer utvikler seg ved oppdragelsesstil. Foreldrenes kapital har også betydning i forhold til ungdom og utdanningssystemene ved at praksisen på utdanningssystemene er mer lik praksisen middelklassen utfører hjemme. Dårlig skolefungering kan videre påvirke ungdoms rusmiddelbruk. Ungdommer blir også påvirket av habitus som utvikles i hjemmet og i ungdomsmiljøene, som videre kan påvirke synet deres på rusmidler. Gjennom å bruke begrepene til Bourdieu, så forklarer jeg hvordan strukturelle forhold kan ha påvirkning på ungdoms rusmiddelbruk. Oppgaven konkluderer med at Bourdieu sine teorier delvis kan forklare ungdoms rusmiddelbruk.

In this thesis I wish to illuminate the subject of adolescents and drug use. I look at structural conditions for adolescents and reflect on this in view of theorist Pierre Bourdieu’s theories of capital and habitus. I illuminate the topic question by using current existing research and literature on the area. Research and literature point at the youth are influenced by their parent’s capital. This is in the form of adolescents with low capital in some parts of society who can wish to acquire more capital by taking part in other parts of society. Parent’s capital influences also in the form of the habitus that youth develop through their upbringing. The parent’s capital also influences in relation to adolescents and the educational systems by the custom in the educational systems is more similar to the custom the middle-class experience at home. Not functioning well at school can further influence adolescents drug use. Youths are also influenced by habitus that develops at home and in youth environments, that further can influence their view on drugs. Using Bourdieu’s terms, I will explain how structural relationships can affect adolescents drug use. This thesis concludes that Bourdieu’s theories can partly explain adolescent drug use.
