En analyse av fremstillingen av to kvinnlige herskere i senantikken

Abstract

Oppgaven tar for seg to kvinnelige herskere i Romerriket i sen-antikken, nærmere bestemt Zenobia av Palmyra og Theodora, Justinians kone, og hvordan disse kvinnene ble fremstilt i primærlitteraturen. Dette vil bli gjort ved å foreta en historisk gjennomgang for å illustrere hvordan de kom til makten, og hvordan de benyttet den. Den historiske gjennomgangen er viktig for å kunne forstå analysen. Analysen skal omhandle hvordan det ble skrevet om Zenobia og Theodora i primærlitteraturen.

This thesis deals with two female rulers in the roman empire in late antiquity, more specifically Zenobia of Palmyra and Theodora the wife of Justinian, and how these women were portrayed in the primary literature. This will be done by conducting a historical review to illustrate how they came to power, and how they used it. The historical review is important to be able to understand the analysis. The analysis will deal with how Zenobia and Theodora were written about in the primary literature.
