Dagens bokforbruk med fokus på bruk og preferaner av boklesing

Abstract

I denne oppgaven har jeg undersøkt hvordan man kan forstå dagens bokforbruk med fokus på bruk og preferanser av boklesing. Formålet med oppgaven var å få en bredere forståelse av dagens bokforbruk blant boklesere i Norge, i den hensikt å finne ut om dagens digitale samfunn preger måten man leser på. Oppgaven har analysert utvalgte statistiske funn fra Befolkningsundersøkelsen i 2016 og 2018 og Brukerundersøkelsen i Nasjonalbibliotekets digitale boktjeneste i 2016 og 2019, fra rapporten «Bokforbruk, bibliotek og lesing i digitale tider». Problemstillingen er diskutert med utgangspunkt fra de respektive funnene opp mot mediumteori, remediering og post-digital estetikk, i tillegg til at sentrale begrep som digitalisering, den fysiske og den digitaliserte boken har hatt en stor innvirkning på diskusjonen. For å diskutere problemstillingen ble ulemper og fordeler ved både den papirbaserte boken og de digitale versjonene av den analysert, før det til slutt ble satt lys over hvilken lesing som gjøres best i hvilket medium. Oppgaven ble konkludert med at dagens bokforbruk er mangfoldig, men til tross for det er papirbasert lesing det mest brukte og prefererte, forstått på bakgrunn av oppgavens empiriske materiale og teoretiske grunnlag. Likevel har digitale lesemedier gjort en merkbar entré i dagens samfunn, og vi leser mer digitalt enn det vi gjorde for tjue år siden, naturlig nok på grunn av tekstens tilgjengelighet.

In this paper I have explored how to understand today's book consumption with focus on the use and preferences of book reading. The purpose of the assignment was to gain a broader understanding of today's book usage among book readers in Norway, with the aim of finding out if today's digital society is influencing the way one reads. The thesis has analyzed selected statistical findings from the Befolkningsundersøkelsen i 2016 og 2018 og Brukerundersøkelsen i Nasjonalbibliotekets digitale boktjeneste i 2016 og 2019, from the report " Bokforbruk, bibliotek og lesing i digitale tider ". The issue is discussed based on the respective findings against medium theory, remediation and post-digital aesthetics, in addition to the fact that central concepts such as digitization, the physical and the digitized book have had a major impact on the discussion. To discuss the problem, the disadvantages and advantages of both the paper-based book and the digital versions of it were analyzed, before the focus was shifted to which reading is best done in which medium. The thesis concluded that today's book consumption is diverse, but despite it, paper-based reading is the most widely used and preferred, understood on the basis of the thesis's empirical material and theoretical basis. Yet digital reading has made a noticeable entrance into today's society, and we are reading more digitally than we did twenty years ago, naturally because of the text's availability.
