ENGLISH: The aim of this study is to find out why patient families sometimes are perceived as difficult and demanding of nurses and how we can handle these situations better. We wanted to find out something about the nurses` attitudes and thoughts related to this topic, it was therefore we chose nurses` perspective in the task.
This study is based on a literature review where we have used research, literature and own experiences to come up with an answer to our problem.
The results of the research have given us three topics that we have discussed; communication between nurses and the patient families, nurses attitudes to the family and relationships between nurses and the family.
We have concluded that there are several reasons why nurses perceive a family as difficult; different expectations of each other and perceptions of the patients situation, communication issues, nurse's negative attitudes towards the family aswell as a lack of knowledge, both in nurses and the family.
