Fargespill, et prosjekt på grensen mellom integrering og kunst

Abstract

Fargespill er et multikulturelt kunstprosjekt som samler barn og unge fra opp mot 40 ulike nasjoner. Mange av deltakerne er enten asylsøkere eller flyktninger, hvor Fargespill har blitt en viktig arena for blant annet inkludering og identitetsbygging. Fargespill roses høyt og har gjennom sitt arbeid med barn med innvandrerbakgrunn blitt tildelt flere priser for inkludering og integrering. Publisiteten rundt Fargespill har stort sett utelukkende vært positiv,, og det var først i 2016 at det ble skrevet en kritiske artikkelen om dem. Kan dette være et tegn på at Fargespill fører et vellykket multikulturelt prosjekt? Det er noe av det denne oppgaven skal undersøke.

Oppgaven stiller spørsmål ved hvor godt forbilde Fargespill er for å representere det kulturelle mangfoldet i Norge, og ved hvor inkluderende de er. Sentralt i oppgaven står spørsmålet om hvorvidt Fargespill er et sosialt eller et kunstnerisk prosjekt. Fargespill har en klar visjon om dette, men flere av deres handlinger taler imot dette. Andre temaer som belyses er hvilket ansvar de har og Fargespill sin posisjon i forhold til integrering.

Oppgaven samler informasjon fra flere relevante artikler, anmeldelser og videoklipp av Fargespill, og gir et godt grunnlag for å kunne stille spørsmål ved, og tolke deres kunstneriske uttrykk og handlinger. Noen av funnene som presenteres handler blant annet om hvordan de håndterer den kritikken som er blitt stilt dem, og om deres store fokus på å vise frem nasjonaliteter og kulturer er med på undergrave identiteten til deltakerne.

Kaleidoscope (Fargespill) is a multicultural art project that brings together children and young people from up to 40 different nations. Many of the participants are either asylum seekers or refugees, where Kaleidoskope has become an important area for inclusion and building of identity. Kaleidoscope is highly praised and through their work with immigrant children, they have recieved several awards for inclusion and integration.The publicity has almost exclusively been positive, until 2016 when a critical article was written about them. Could this be a sign that Kaleidoscope is leading a successful multicultural project? This is one of the things this thesis is looking into.

This thesis questions how good Kaleidoscope is to representing the cultural diversity in Norway, and how inclusive they are. At the center of this thesis is the question of whether Kaleidoscope is a social or artistic project. Their vision is clear, but several of their actions could be said to contradict that. Other topics highlighted are their responsibilities and Kaleidoscope’s position in relation to integration.

This thesis collects information from several relevant articles, reviews and video clips of Kaleidoscope, and provides a good fundament for questioning and interpreting their artistic expressions and actions. Some of the findings presented includes how they handle the criticism they have been given, and how their strong focus on showcasing nationalities and cultures, undermines the identity of the participants.
