dc.description.abstract | Offshore aquaculture is a growing field with enormous potential. However, due to harsh condition in these site leads to higher loads. To effectively predict the hydrodynamic behaviour of flexible net in these conditions are of growing interest. Fluid-Structure interaction study of the flexible net sheet in a uniform current flow using both experiments and CFD simulations is performed here. Three different solidity ratios of the net were used with three different weight systems. All nine net cases were studied with different inflow velocities, ranging up to 1.0 m/s. Forces and deformation variation with solidity ratio, bottom-weight and the current speed is studied and discussed in this work. Results from these experiments and CFD matches the behaviour of earlier experiments and numerical studies. Results show a satisfactory qualitative correlation between forces and deformation from CFD to that of experiments. However, the difference between CFD results and experiments were generally high, especially in the low-velocity range | |
