dc.description.abstract | This master's thesis deals with a study of a carbon fiber sleeve. The function of this
sleeve is to hold in place a rotor construction which is in an electric motor. The thesis is
written in collaboration with Nils Petter Vedvik, at NTNU and Jørg Høyland, at Rolls-Royce
Electrical Norway.
Rolls-Royce has experience that this sleeve has a crack in it, and therefore breaks. What
this thesis will try to figure out is why it fails and what can prevent this. The study will
investigate different geometries of the sleeve and how it behaves. Relevant theory will be
presented, then the procedure for constructing an element model of the sleeve will be
reviewed. Finally, results will be presented and a conclusion on where the problem may
lie. | |
