Barnet som aktør i egen sak

Abstract

Denne bacheloren handler om barnevernspedagogen sin rolle i møte med barn som lever under alkoholbelastet omsorg, knyttet til undersøkelsesfasen. Målet med oppgaven har vært å forstå hvilke faktorer som påvirker barnets muligheter og utfordringer til å meddele seg i samtale med barnevernspedagogen, og hvilken kunnskap man som barnevernspedagog bør inneha i møtet med disse barna. På bakgrunn av dette kom jeg derfor frem til følgende problemstilling:

Hvordan kan man i barnesamtale, knyttet til undersøkelsesfasen, ivareta barn som lever i alkoholbelastede familier?

For å besvare problemstillingen har jeg benyttet meg av tilgjengelig og relevant litteratur. Barnets medvirkning er et sentralt hensyn i barnevernloven, og jeg har derfor valgt å starte oppgaven med å si noe om barnesamtalen i undersøkelsesfasen. Videre har jeg beskrevet hvordan foreldrenes alkoholmisbruk kan påvirke barnets utvikling av tilknytning, og presentert de ulike tilknytningsstilene. Ettersom alkoholmisbruk kan bidra til økt risiko for traumatiske opplevelser har jeg skrevet om traumeforståelse, og hvordan man kan forstå begrepet resiliens.

I oppgavens neste del starter jeg med å beskrive undersøkelsens rammer for å gi en bedre forståelse av barnevernspedagogens utgangspunkt for samtale med barnet. Videre har jeg gjort et forsøk på å belyse og drøfte hvordan barnets tilknytning, traumer og utviklet resiliens vil kunne påvirke barnets samtalekompetanse. For å ivareta og støtte barnet har jeg sett på samtaleteknikken «den dialogiske samtalemetode» og ulike verktøy man kan benytte seg av i barnesamtalen.

Til slutt har jeg skrevet en avslutningsdel hvor jeg summerer opp oppgavens innhold og kort om mine tanker etter endt oppgaveskriving.

This bachelor thesis analyses the role of the child protection worker when meeting with children whose caretakers abuse alcohol, more specifically in the investigating phase. The aim of the thesis was to gain a better understanding of the factors that affect both the child’s possibilities and its challenges to share experiences in conversation with the child protection worker in addition to what knowledge one should have as a professional going into meetings with these children. That lead to the following thesis question:

“In the investigating phase of the conversation with children, how can one best assure the wellbeing of those who live in families heavily affected by alcohol?”

To answer the thesis question, I have utilized available and relevant literature. The contribution of the child itself is an important consideration in the law on child protection and child welfare, which is why the thesis initially says something about the examining phase of the conversation with the child. After that is a description of how the parents abusing alcohol can have an impact on the child’s development of attachment, as well as a presentation of the different kinds of attachment. Considering the increased risk of traumatic experiences that comes with alcohol abuse, I have written about trauma understanding and how to interpret the term “resilience”.

In the next part of the thesis, I start by describing the analytical framework to provide a better understanding of the child protection worker starting point for a conversation with the child. I have then made an attempt to highlight and analyze how attachment, trauma and developed resilience are all able to affect the child’s abilities to converse. To care for and support the child, I have looked at the conversation technique “den dialogiske samtalemetode” and different tools one can use in a child conversation.

Lastly, I have written a summary of the contents of the thesis and briefly about my reflections post thesis.
