Traumebevisst omsorg i barnevernsinstitusjon

Abstract

Formålet med oppgaven er å besvare problemstillingen: Hvordan kan miljøterapeuten anvende traumebevisst omsorg for å bli en bedre hjelper for barnet? For å besvare problemstillingen benyttes litteratur som omhandler blant annet traumeutsatte barn og unge, traumebehandling, miljøterapi og traumebevisst omsorg. Oppgavens første del gjennomgår teoretiske perspektiver, hvor relevante begrep redegjøres for. Den praktiske anvendelsen av traumebevisst omsorgs tre grunnpilarer overfor utviklingstraumatiserte barn og unge, samt anvendelsen overfor miljøterapeuten selv belyses i oppgavens andre del. I oppgaven konkluderes det blant annet med at miljøterapeutens egenomsorg vil være avgjørende for kvaliteten i miljøterapeutens arbeid, og på denne måten også barnas utbytte av et institusjonsopphold.

This thesis seeks to answer the following research question: How can social workers utilize trauma informed care in order to become a better care provider for children? The answer to this question makes use of literature regarding, among others, children and youth exposed to trauma, treatment of trauma, environmental therapy and trauma informed care. The first section of the thesis expands on theoretical perspectives and clarifies terminology. The practical utilization of the three pillars of trauma informed care in the context of trauma exposed children and youth, as well as the utilization of the same principles in the context of social workers themselves, are discussed in the thesis’ second section. In conclusion, this thesis finds that self-care on part of the social workers themselves will have a direct effect on the quality of their work, and in turn effect what the child can gain from a stay at a child welfare institution.
