This bachelor thesis deals with what research says about children´s participation in the child welfare research phase. In this context, the child´s participation is about the child both receiving information, being listened to, as well as being able to actively participate in the survey, and also being allowed to participate in the decisions that include themselves (Thrana, 2008). A problem statement has been formulated for the assignment, which must be answered through the assignment text. This issue is “Is it facilitated for the child´s participation in the child welfare service´s investigation phase?”. This thesis is inspired by literature study as a method. Various research studies have been found through literature searches, and in this thesis the problem will be discussed with the help of the research studies and different literature, and thus try to find out the problem´s questions. The thesis is also based on relevant sections from the Child Welfare Act (Child Welfare Act, 1992, §1-6, §4-3, §6-3). Based on the thesis´ limitations in length, I have chosen some sub-themes for the child´s participation, and I will go more in depth on these in the thesis. These are, for example, topics such as “when the child does not want to participate” and “talking to the child in a private room”. Through these topics and a few other, it has been discussed whether the child´s participation in the child welfare research phase is facilitated, or not. The research studies and literature indicate that there are several reasons why participation should be facilitated, but also that there are a number of reasons why it is not done. There are also several degrees of participation, and participation can be both actively participating and expressing one´s opinion, but also not wanting to participate can be a form of participation.
