Abstract

År 1969 utbröt en serie med våldsamma demonstrationer i New York. Upprepande gånger hade det utförts polisrazzior mot baren Stonewall Inn, där många homosexuella och transsexuella uppehöll sig. Året efter revolten hölls New York Pride till minne av årsdagen efter upproret och som en påminnelse om de förtryck lhbt personer har blivit och fortsatt blir utsatt för dagligen. Pride paraden arrangeras varje år runt om i världen, och till trots för att det startade som ett minnesmärke för Stonewall Inn demonstrationen så är personer av alla klasser, kön, yrken och sexuell läggning med och markerar sin avsky över förtryck mot lhbt personer. Socialt arbete har i praktiken alltid till stor del handlat om att skapa social rättfärdighet och bidra till att reducera social olikhet. Fokus på det sociala arbetet har överensstämt med den samhällsutveckling som har förelegat men i tillägg har man försökt i bästa mån att avslöja marginalisering och förtryck i olika former. Jane Adams (1860–1935) och Mary Richmond (1861–1928) omtalas som förmödrarna inom socialt arbete, där deras primära mål var att bekämpa fattigdom, kämpa för kvinnors rättigheter samt mot olika former för undertryckning och orättfärdigheter (Ellingsen et al., 2015).

In 1969 a serie of violent demonstations broke out in New York. Repeatedly times, the police had raids against the bar Stonewall Inn, where many homosexuals and transexuals had there local stay. The year after the revolt took place, New York Pride organized a parade in the memory of the demonstations and as a reminder of all the discrimination lhbt persons was exposed to and still are on a daily basis. The pride parade is arranged every year, in many different countrys around the world. And even though it started as a memory mark for the Stonewall Inn demonstrations, people of all classes, gender, occupations and sexual orientations participating in the parade, to mark the disgust against the oppression of lhbt individuals. Social work has in practice always to a big part centered on to create social justice and to contribute to reduce the social diffenrens. The focus on the social work has been running parallel with the updated social infrastructure, and also to uncover the marginalization and oppression that comes in many forms. Jane Adams (1860–1935) and Mary Richmond (1861–1928) are referred to as pioneers of social work, where their primary goal was to fight poverty, fight for women’s rights amongst others injustices and oppressions (Ellingsen et al., 2015).
