dc.description.abstract
Twente is a top economic region in the Netherlands, yet, many talented people, including internationals, move out of the area to other parts of the country. The percentage of international people in the Twente population is much lower than the national average of the Netherlands. The region has tried to attract and retain internationals, but these efforts have not had the desired result. Previous studies suggest the significance of different features in the regional attractiveness. The current study investigates the relevant features in consideration for international students to stay in Twente. Herefore, surveys and interviews collected the data under international students from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences. The data from both methods were used in the analysis and to compare to previous research, theories and concepts. The results from this analysis, the discussion and conclusion show the positive features and efforts in the region to attract and retain internationals. However, the results also indicate the need to improve to establish Twente as an attractive region for internationals. Keywords: international talent, international students, regional attractiveness, Twente
