Innledning: Artikkelen undersøker hvordan verktøysettet “Våg og snakk om det” (VOSOD) kan bidra til at sykepleiere snakker om seksualitet med pasienter med en kronisk (revmatisk) sykdom. Verktøysettet består av et kompendium med relevant fagstoff om seksualitet og seksuell helse, samt dialogkort som skal brukes i refleksjon med andre sykepleiere. Studien belyser sykepleieres erfaring med verktøyet og hvordan det kan bidra til at sykepleierne tar opp temaet seksualitet med sine pasienter.

Metode: For å undersøke hvordan erfaring sykepleierne har med VOSOD, ble det gjennomført fire kvalitative semistrukturerte intervju med sykepleiere på en revmatologisk avdeling. Intervjuene ble gjennomført i april 2021 og analysert ved hjelp av tematisk inndeling og tolkning.

Resultater: Resultatene viser at VOSOD har bidratt til økt kompetanse om seksualitet som begrep, samt vanlige plager og utfordringer knyttet til seksualitet som revmatisk sykdom kan føre til. Konkret kunnskap om hvordan innlede samtalen om seksualitet med pasientene blir trukket frem som nyttig. Verktøysettet har bidratt til økt bevissthet og refleksjon rundt temaet og egne holdninger rundt dette. Noen forteller om økt kollektivt fokus. Funnene peker på at VOSOD har bidratt til motivasjon for å snakke om seksualitet. Noen sykepleiere anser fortsatt tid som en barriere og at de ikke alltid kan prioritere temaet i samtale med pasienten.

Konklusjon: Studien har vist at verktøysettet VOSOD kan føre til at sykepleiere snakker om seksualitet med pasienter som har en kronisk (revmatisk sykdom) ved at det kan bidra med økt kompetanse, bevissthet og motivasjon. Implementering og organisatoriske faktorer ser ut til å ha noe å si for om sykepleierne tar opp temaet. Tid pekes fortsatt på som en barriere ved den ene avdelingen. Støtte fra avdelingen samt økt kollektivt fokus ser ut til å fremme motivasjonen til sykepleierne.

Abstract

Introduction: The article examines how the tool kit "Våg og snakk om det" (VOSOD) can help nurses to talk about sexuality with patients who suffer from a chronic (rheumatic) disease. The tool set consists of a compendium with relevant information on sexuality and sexual health, as well as dialogue cards to be used in reflection with other nurses. The study sheds light on nurses' experience with the tool and how it can contribute to nurses addressing the topic of sexuality with their patients.

Method: To investigate how the nurses' experience is with VOSOD, four qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with nurses in a rheumatology department. The interviews were conducted in April 2021 and analyzed using thematic division and interpretation.

Results: The results show that VOSOD has contributed to increased competence about sexuality as concepts, common ailments and challenges with sexuality rheumatic disease can lead to. Concrete knowledge of how to initiate the conversation with the patients is highlighted, and VOSOD has contributed to increased awareness and reflection on sexuality as a topic and the nurses own attitudes regarding this. Some talk about increased collective focus. The findings indicate that VOSOD has contributed to motivation to talk about sexuality, but that some nurses still consider time as a barrier and that they still cannot always prioritize the topic in conversation with the patient.

Conclusion: The study has shown that VOSOD can lead to nurses talking about sexuality with patients who have a chronic (rheumatic disease) and that it can contribute to increased competence, awareness and motivation. Implementation and organizational factors seem to have a bearing on whether nurses address the issue or not. Time is still pointed out as a barrier while support from the ward as well as increased collective focus seems to promote the nurses’ motivation when it comes to talking about sexuality.
