Akustisk slagtøj og musikteknologi – et udøvende musikprojekt

Abstract

Dette projekt udforsker en udøvende tilgang til akustiske trommer og slagtøj, i brug sammen med musikteknologiske værktøjer. Målet er, med udgangspunkt i improvisation og kompositoriske værktøjer, at søge at udvide lyd og anvendelighed af de akustiske instrumenter ved brug af teknologien, i både post musikproduktion og i live sammenhæng. Projektet viser via forskellige musikværker, varierende tilgange og eksempler på en udvidelse af lyden af tonale og ikke tonale slagtøjsinstrumenter, og måder hvorpå instrument og teknologi kan integreres ved hjælp af mikrofoner, kontrol af hardware og en tillempet spillestil. Projektet konkluderer grundlæggende, at for at opnå et tilfredsstillende resultat, kan kompositorisk forberedelse, særligt med lyden af de ikke tonale instrumenter i post musikproduktion, være en nødvendighed. I live situationer integrerer de ikke tonale instrumenter bedre med improvisation, mens de tonale instrumenter kræver mere forberedelse. Det performative musikalske aspekt er projektets hoveddel, og rapporten bør læses som et supplement til lytningen af værkerne.

This project explores the use and possibilities of a performative approach to acoustical drums and percussion with the tools and technics of music technology. The goal is to seek for sound and music related application combining acoustic instruments and technology in post music production and live processing settings, using improvisation and compositional tools. It shows via various music pieces, different approaches and examples of an expansion to the sound of the pitched and unpitched instruments, and ways to integrate instrument and processing with the use of microphones, control of hardware and an adapted approach to performance. To achieve a successful result, it generally concludes a larger need for compositional preparation in post-production use, especially regarding an expansion to the sound of non-pitched instruments. In live-processing settings an improvisational approach integrates easier with the non-pitched instruments, whereas the pitched instruments require more preparation. The report should be read in connection and as a supplement to the main body of work; the performative musical aspect shown in sounding results.
