dc.description.abstract | I denne avhandlingen undersøkes forholdene rundt baritt og dets bruk i boreslam. Ultrasoniske
To fysiske modeller beskrives, én for suspensjoner og én for porøse elastiske rammeverk.
for oljebasert boreslam.
Elastisk rammeverk-modellen
dc.description.abstract | In this thesis we investigate barite and its use in drilling fluids. Ultrasonic techniques for
logging behind casing are described with a focus on discriminating between barite muds,
low-impedance cement and shale. The rheological properties of barite muds is discussed
along with barite sag, and we conclude that barite sag is mainly treated as a drilling problem,
and is not investigated with logging behind casing in mind.
Two rock physics models are described, a model for suspensions and a model for porous
elastic frameworks. The models are linked into an impedance-model for oil-based and
water-based mud. We learn that it is theoretically possible to discriminate between muds
and low-impedance cement for mud densities up to 2.0 g cm−3 for a water-based mud, and
up to 2.2 g cm−3 for oil-based mud. The models are compared with available data on drilling
fluids and from unconsolidated sands.
The suspension model is found to depend heavily on its input parameters, which are mainly
Archie’s cement factor and the average grain diameter. The same results as Hayman are
obtained, where the model fit quantitatively only if the viscosity is assumed one order of
magnitude lower. Therefore, we conclude that a more sophisticated model is necessary.
The elastic framework model is compared with experiments, where satisfactory results are
obtained. Finally, barite mud is discussed in relation to plug & abandonment.
