Implementering av Midt-Norsk ringen

Abstract

Fiskeoppdrettsbransjen har utviklet seg til å bli en bransje preget av mye innovativt teknologisk utstyr. Implementering av nytt utstyr er en krevende prosess i alle bedrifter. Det er gjort lite forskning på implementering av teknisk utstyr i oppdrettsbransjen. I forbindelse med skriving av masteroppgave, ble SalMar kontaktet angående mulighet for å gjøre en studie i samarbeid med dem. SalMar hadde et ønske om å få mer kunnskap om hvordan implementering av nytt teknisk utstyr kunne gjennomføres på en måte som minsket feil, og konsekvenser av feil på teknisk utstyr. For å avgrense dette ønsket, ble man enige om følgende problemstilling Hvordan gjennomfører SalMar implementering av teknisk utstyr?. For å utforske denne problemstillingen ble implementeringen av Midt-Norsk ringen valgt som case og følgende forskningsspørsmål ble benyttet.

Hvorfor valgte SalMar å implementere Midt-Norsk ringen? Hvordan har prosjektet klart å møte kravene fra innovativt utstyr? Hvordan har kommunikasjonen innad i bedriften vært gjennom implementeringsprosessen?

For å besvare forskningsspørsmålene, og dermed problemstillingen, ble det gjennomført en befaring ved en av av SalMars oppdretts lokaliteter i tillegg til fire delvis strukturerte dybdeintervjuer av ledere i SalMar og teknisk personell på to av SalMars oppdretts lokaliteter. Funnene ble analysert med en induktiv metode. Grunnlaget for denne kvalitative studien har vært opplysninger fra de delvis strukturerte dybdeintervjuene, befaringen og eksisterende teorier i forhold til endringsledelse og prosjektledelse. Funnene i undersøkelsen viste at SalMar bare delvis oppnådde en prosjektsuksess med implementeringen av Midt-Norsk ringen. Analysen av funnene viste at det kunne stilles spørsmål ved om SalMar oppnådde prosjekledelsessuksess ved denne implementeringen. Hovedutfordringen for SalMar ifølge denne studien er problemer med den vertikale kommunikasjonen i organisasjonen.

The fish farming industry has developed into an industry characterised by innovative technological equipment. Implementation of new equipment is a demanding process in all companies, and in fish farming, there is little research on the implementation of technical equipment. In the preparation face for this master's thesis, SalMar was contacted regarding the possibility of doing a study in collaboration with them. SalMar desired to learn how the implementation of new technical equipment could be carried out to reduce errors, and consequences of errors on technical equipment. The thesis used the following research question to concretise SalMars request: How does SalMar implement technical equipment?. This thesis researches one of SalMars earlier implementation projects, the implementation of the Midt-Norsk ring. The following sub-questions were used to help answer the research question.

Why did SalMar choose to implement the Midt-Norsk ring? How has the project managed to meet the requirements of innovative equipment? How has the communication within the company been through the implementation process?

In order to answer the sub-questions and thus the research question, a visit to one of SalMar's farming site and partially structured in-depth interviews were conducted. Managers in SalMar and technical personnel at two of SalMar's farming sites were interviewed. The findings were analysed using an inductive method. The basis for this qualitative study has been information from the partially structured in-depth interviews, a visit to one of SalMar's farming sites, and existing theories concerning change management and project management. The survey findings showed that SalMar only partially achieved project success with implementing the Midt-Norsk ring. The analysis of the findings showed that SalMar´s project management success with this implementation was questionable. The main challenge for SalMar, according to this study, is problems with vertical communication in the organisation.
