Fremstilling av psykiske lidelser i musikal

Abstract

Denne oppgaven tar for seg hvordan fremstillingen av psykiske lidelser er i musikal og hvordan musikalen som form er egnet til å fremstille psykiske lidelser. Dette eksemplifiseres ved å se på hvordan bipolar lidelse og sosial angst kommer til syne i Next to Normal og Dear Evan Hansen. Hovedtyngden av det teoretiske grunnlaget tar utgangspunkt i professor i kunst- og kulturvitenskap Michael Eigtvedts studier om musikalformen og professor i musikalteater Millie Taylors forståelse av musikalen som realisme og underholdning. Hvordan musikalen som form er egnet til å fremstille psykiske lidelser ses på i lys av samtidsaktualitet, balansegangen mellom informasjon og underholdning og musikalens formidling av følelser.

This bachelor thesis is about how mental illness is portrayed in musical theatre and how musical theatre is suitable to present mental illness. This is exemplified by how bipolar disorder and social anxiety is portrayed in Next to Normal and Dear Evan Hansen. The theoretical basis is based on, professor in the department of arts- and cultural studies at the university of Copenhagen, Michal Eigtvedts studies on musical theatre, as well as professor in musical theatre, Millie Taylors, understanding of musical theatre as realism and entertainment. How musical theatre is suitable to present mental illness is discussed based on its relevance in the present, the balance between information and entertainment and the musicals position when it comes to expressing feelings.
