MUSIKALEN - Scenekunstens kiosklitteratur? En kartlegging av musikalens landskap

Abstract

Denne oppgaven tar utgangspunkt i en påstand om at musikalen er scenekunstens kiosklitteratur. Er musikalen kun underholdning eller er det en legitim kunstform? Hva er det som får noen til å se på musikalen som kiosklitteratur? Gjennom å kartlegge hvordan fagpersoner innenfor scenekunstfeltet plasserer seg i musikalens landskap, har jeg søkt etter å få en større helhetsforståelse av hvilken posisjon musikalen har i det norske scenekunstfeltet. Det metodiske grunnlaget bygger på kvalitative intervjuer av fagpersoner i ulike posisjoner. Disse er en teatersjef, en regissør, en skuespiller og en gruppe studenter. Intervjuene har blitt analysert med diskursanalyse som metode. Teorien jeg har brukt bygger i hovedsak på professor i musikkteater Millie Taylor sitt arbeid i boken Musical theatre, realism and entertainment og den danske professoren i kunst- og kulturvitenskap Michael Eigtveds forskning om musikalen som sjanger.

This bachelor thesis is based on a claim that the musical is the «kiosklitteratur» (popular fiction-litterature) of the performing arts. Is musical theatre just entertainment or is it a legitimate art form? What makes someone look at the musical as «kiosklitteratur? By mapping how professionals within the field of performing arts place themselves in the musical theatre landscape, the thesis has sought to gain a greater understanding of its position in the Norwegian field of performing arts. The methodological basis is based on qualitative interviews of professionals in various positions. These are a theatre director, a director, an actor and a group of musical theatre students. The interviews have been analyzed using discourse analysis as a method. The theory I have used is mainly based on professor of musical theater Millie Taylor's work in the book musical theatre, realism and entertainment and the Danish professor of art and cultural studies Michael Eigtved's research on the musical as a genre.
