True Crime – Ekte Kriminalsaker som Underholdning

Abstract

True Crime-dokumentarene har både vært populære blant produsentene og seerne de siste årene. Denne bacheloroppgaven utforsker fenomenet True Crime i skjæringspunktet mellom faktaformidling og underholdning. I hvilken grad påvirker journalistikken TV-dokumentaren og dens virkemidler? Oppgaven utforsker balansen mellom fakta og underholdning i True Crime dokumentarer, og trekker ut hvilke elementer som fremmer fakta-delen og hvilke elementer som fremhever underholdningsbiten. I lys av dette undersøkes fenomener rundt seer-rollen der man opplever stort engasjement på digitale flater, men også problematiske sider ved dette engasjementet belyses. Oppgaven inneholder også kvalitative analyser av de norske True Crime-dokumentarene "Hvem Drepte Birgitte?" (Aarskog, 2018) og "Baneheia – Kampen om sannheten" (Lillesund, 2021) for å avdekke hvilke av disse elementene som finnes i disse dokumentarene og seerengasjement som oppstår rundt de.

True Crime-documenaries have become highly popular these last years both in terms of production and viewers. This bachelor thesis explores the phenomenon of True Crime and the intersection between fact and entertainment in True Crime. To what extent does journalism affect TV-documentary and its techniques? The thesis explores the balance between facts and entertainment in True Crime-documentaries, and extracts which elements foregrounds the factual parts and which element emphasize the entertainment part. In light of this, phenomena around the viewer role where there is often a high level engagement on social media is explored, and also problematic sides to this engagement will be highlighted. The thesis also containt qualitative analysis’ of the norwegian True Crime-documentaries "Hvem Drepte Birgitte?" (Aarskog, 2018) and "Baneheia – Kampen om sannheten" (Lillesund, 2021) to uncover which of these elements are present in these documentaries and the viewer engagement that arises around them.
