Hvordan Parasite (2019) ble et verdensomspennende fenomen - En analyse av hvordan Parasite's tematiske observasjoner og filmatiske virkemidler ga filmen internasjonal suksess.

Abstract

Inspirasjonen til denne oppgaven kom fra de mange filmenene fra 2019 som handlet om klasseskille og klassekamp. Å undersøke hvorfor tematikken var så populær ble utgangspunkt for å finne problemstilling til oppgaven. Etter å ha sett alle filmene om tematikken ble en av de mest populære filmenene om temaet valgt ut til oppgaven. Filmen oppgaven tar utgangspunkt i er Parasite (2019). En film som i 2019 ble et verdensomspennende fenomen. I løpet av arbeidet med å analysere filmen og tekster om filmen, var det spesielt to suksessfaktorer som utpekte seg. Den filmatiske presentasjonen, og de tematiske observasjonene om det sørkoreanske samfunnet. Disse faktorene fikk fortjenesten for å være det som gjorde filmen til en internasjonal hit. Dette ble utgangspunktet for filmens problemstilling, hvor det stilles spørsmål ved hvordan, og hvorfor, disse faktorene førte til suksess. I oppgaven analyseres det hvordan moderne koreanske film-industri strategier har utviklet seg, og hvordan dette formet regissør av Parasite, Bong Joon-Ho, som filmskaper. Videre har oppgaven analysert Parasite's tematikk og budskap, og filmens visuelle stil. Analysen av filmen, og de nevnte suksessfaktorene, har vist at den gjenkjennelige tematikken om å leve i kapitalistisk klassesamfunn, sammen med det internasjonalt gjenkjennelige filmspråket, gjorde Parasite til et verdensomspennende fenomen i 2019.

The inspiration for this assignment came from watching a lot of movies from 2019 about class differences and class conflict. To analyze why these themes were so popular became the starting point to finding the assignment's thesis question. After having seen all the films with the class conflict theme, one of the most popular of the films was chosen for the assignment. The movie this assignment is based is Parasite (2019). A movie that in 2019 became a worldwide phenomenon. In the process of analyzing the movie, and texts about the movie, there were two main success factors that stood out. The visual presentation, and the thematic observations about the South Korean society. These elements got the recognition for making the movie an international hit. This became the starting point for the thesis question, where questions are asked about how, and why, these elements led to the film's success. In the assignment it's discussed how modern Korean film industry strategy has developed, and how these strategies influenced Parasite's director, Bong Joon-Ho, as a filmmaker. Following that the assignment has analyzed Parasite's theme and message, as well as the films visual style. The analysis of the movie, and the aforementioned elements, has shown that the recognizable theme of living in a capitalist class society, with the internationally recognizable film language, made Parasite a worldwide phenomenon in 2019.
