Museets magasin på utstilling?

Abstract

Denne oppgaven undersøker midlertidige utstillinger med utgangspunkt i eksempelet Bevare meg vel på Sverresborg Trøndelag Folkemuseum. Den undersøker hvordan museet har bygd utstillingen og hvilke ideer om utstilling som ligger bak den. For å undersøke dette problemet blir det gjort en sammenligning med en annen midlertidig utstilling: Samlarna fra 1994. Som metode i arbeidet blir det brukt utstillingsanalyse, intervju, utstillingsanmeldelse og egne observasjoner. For å undersøke Samlarna brukes katalogen til utstillingen som kilde. Oppgaven viser at Bevare meg vel er en kontekstuell utstilling som i sin utforming prøver å rekonstruere omgivelsene til et museumsmagasin. Den viser en stor mengde gjenstander innenfor et stort tidsspenn, den viser mangfoldet i museets samling og den gir et innblikk i bevaringsarbeidet som foregår på museet. Gjenstandene er organisert etter samlingene de tilhører, valg av design er basert på at utstillingen skal speile et magasin og utstillingen bruker hovedsakelig tekst for å formidle sitt budskap. Den er skapt for vise en del av museet folk flest sjeldent eller aldri får se, nemlig magasinet og bevaringsarbeidet som foregår bak scenen.

This paper examines temporary exhibitions with the example Bevare meg vel at Sverresborg Trøndelag Folkemuseum. It examines how the museum has built the exhibition and what ideas about exhibition it is based on. To examine this problem, a comparison is made with another temporary exhibition: Samlarna from 1994. The methods used are analysis of exhibition, interview, review of exhibition, and personal observation. The exhibition’s catalog has been used as a source to examine Samlarna. This paper shows that Bevare meg vel is a contextual exhibition that by its design tries to reconstruct the surroundings of a museum storage. It shows many objects from a large time span, it shows the diversity in the museum’s collection, and it gives an insight into the practice of conservation that takes place at the museum. The objects are organized according to the collections they belong to, the design choice has been made to make the exhibition resemble a museum storage and the exhibition mainly uses text to convey its message. It has been created to show a part of the museum most people rarely or never get to see: the museum storage and the practice of conservation that takes place behind the scenes.
