Abstract

Hip hop er eit samleuttrykk for urbane kunstariske uttrykksformer som utvikla seg i Bronx, New York, på 1970-talet. Hip hop har vore nytta som eit uttrykksverktøy av afro-amerikansk ungdom sidan den gong. I denne oppgåva undersøkjer eg korleis utviklinga av hip hop var styrt av den sosiopolitiske konteksten i urbane område i USA mellom 1970 og 2000. Dette skjer gjennom eit grundig blikk på gangsta-rap, i form av raplyrikk. Dette ser eg i syn av crack-epidemien og ringverknadane av den, samt eit blikk på generasjonsskiftet hip hop-generasjonen stod for.

Hip hop is a collective term for creative forms of expression that found their roots in The Bronx, New York in the 1970s. In my bachelor thesis i explore how the development of hip hop was controlled by the sociopolitical context of urban afro-american areas in the USA between 1970 and 2000. I have done this by looking at gangsta-rap in form of its lyrics. I have put this together with the crack-epidemic, and its many side effects. I also look at the generational gap the hip hop generation was.
