Anglonormanniske borger

Abstract

Bacheloroppgaven tar for seg borgenes militære rolle i det anglonormanniske samfunnet. Dette gjøres gjennom en todeling hvor det først dannes en grunnmur gjennom redegjørelse av borgenes plass i samfunnet. Dette gjøres gjennom å se på flere viktige elementer, blant annet: materialene de bestod av, forskjellene og likhetene med de tidligere fortifikasjonene, hvor de ble bygget og hvor mange de var. Deretter blir den militære rollen nærmere drøftet. Her er spesielt borgenes form og funksjon i fokus, men det blir også sett litt på Orderic Vitalis sine beskrivelser av borgene.

The bachelor thesis will look at the military role of the Anglo-Norman castles. This will be done in two parts, where the first will establish a foundation through a description of castles’ position in society. This will be done by examining different elements of castles, for example: what materials they consisted of, differences and similarities with the earlier fortifications, where they were built and how many they were. After that, the military role of the castle will be discussed in more detail. Specifically, the form and function of castles will be the main focus, but there will also be a review of Orderic Vitalis’ descriptions of the castles.
