Hvordan 1814 påvirket 1905

Abstract

Denne oppgaven kommer til å se på perioden mellom 1875 frem til unionsoppløsningen i 1905, og hvorvidt argumentasjonen i løpet av disse årene utviklet seg i Norge. Spesifikt kommer den til se på hvordan hendelsene i 1814 knyttet til bruddet med Danmark ble brukt i argumentasjon i løpet av disse årene, og hvordan den utviklet seg. Dette kommer til å gjøres med å se på tre av de største riksdekkende avisene i perioden: Dagbladet, Morgenbladet og Aftenposten. Ved å se på februar i 1875, 1885, 1895 og 1905, og se på artiklene som nevner 1814 i løpet av denne måneden, kommer oppgaven til å analysere denne utviklingen. Oppgaven kommer også til å se på hva denne utviklingen har å si i forhold til Norges nasjonale fellesidentitet og dens tilknytning til 1814, og hvorvidt den kan knyttes til argumentasjonen i disse avisene.

Dette kommer til å gjøres i to trinn: Første delen kommer til å ta for seg den historiske bakgrunnen som må legges til grunne for å svare på oppgaven. Altså hendelsene i Norge i 1814 som førte til bruddet med Danmark og inngangen i union med Sverige, hendelsene i 1905, altså hvordan Unionsoppløsningen hendte, og en gjennomgang av hvordan mediebildet utviklet seg i løpet av perioden som skal analyseres. Den andre delen er selve analysen, hvor oppgaven vil gå gjennom artiklene hvor 1814 blir nevnt og analysere hvordan argumentasjonen utvikler seg mellom de årene som skal analyseres og hvordan dette kan knyttes til norsk nasjonal identitet.

This thesis will look at the period between 1875 to the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905, and how argumentation during these years changed in Norway. Specifically it will look at the events which took place in 1814 tied to the breakup with Denmark was used in arguments during these years, and how this evolved. The thesis will look at three nationally distributed newspapers of the period: Dagbladet, Morgenbladet and Aftenposten. By looking at February in 1875, 1885, 1895 and 1905, and looking at articles mentioning 1814 during February, the thesis will analyse the evolution of the arguments. The thesis will also look at how this evolution says about Norway’s national identity and how it is tied to the events of 1814, and whether this can be tied to the argumentation in these newspapers.

This will be done in two steps: The first part will be the historical background needed to answer the questions of the thesis. It will look at the events in Norway in 1814 that lead to the breakup with Denmark and the entrance into the union with Sweden, the events in 1905 surrounding the dissolution of the union with Sweden, as well as how the media of the time was built and how it evolved during the period. The other part of the thesis is the analysis, where the thesis will go through the articles in which 1814 is mentioned and analyse how the argumentation in these articles evolves between each of the chosen years, and whether this says anything about Norway’s national identity.
