Forvaltning og digitalisering av fotografi på museum

Abstract

Denne oppgaven handler om samlingsforvaltning og digitalisering av foto på museum. Oppgavens første problemstilling handler om hvordan museer arbeider med fotografi i praksis og hvilke utfordringer som er forbundet med dette arbeidet. Museenes forvaltningsarbeid er et arbeid som går over flere ulike deler av museenes virksomhet. I dag foregår flere deler av museenes forvaltningsarbeid med fotografier på digitale plattformer og er sentrale deler av forvaltningsarbeidet med både analoge og digitale fotografier i praksis. Forvaltningsarbeidet skal relateres til hvordan digitalisering påvirker dette arbeidet, og oppgavens andre problemstilling dreier seg derfor om hvordan digitalisering påvirker museenes arbeid med fotografier. Oppgaven har brukt kvalitative intervjuer av ansatte ved to utvalgte museer for å få innsikt i og kunnskap om hvordan disse forvaltningsprosessene foregår i praksis, og dette er et utgangspunkt for en refleksjon rundt utfordringer knyttet til oppgavens tittel og problemstillinger. Oppgavens hovedfunn er innsikt i det praktiske museumsarbeidet tilknyttet samlingsforvaltning av fotografi på museum og hvordan digitaliseringen har ført med seg nye utfordringer, men også nye muligheter tilknyttet museenes arbeid med fotografier, inkludert en diskusjon rundt fotografiers autentisitet.

This paper is about collection management and digitization of photos in museums. The first issue this paper is concerned with is how museums work with photography in practice and what challenges are associated with this work. The museums’ collections management work is work that covers several different parts of the museum activities. Today, several parts of the museums' collections management work deals with photographs on digital platforms. This work is a main part of the management work with the collections and concerns both analogue and digital photographs in practice. The collections management work is related to how digitization affects this work, and this papers second issue therefore concerns how digitization affects the museums' work with photographs. The thesis has used qualitative interviews of employees at two selected museums to gain insight into and knowledge of how these management processes take place in practice. This is a starting point for a reflection on challenges related to this papers’ title and issues. The main findings of this paper are insight into the practical museum work associated with collection management of photography in museums and how digitalization has brought new challenges, but also new opportunities associated with museums' work with photographs, including a discussion of the authenticity of photographs
