dc.description.abstract | Social media is used by many of the country's cultural heritage institutions, but its use is poorly documented and evaluated. Social media has many opportunities and aspects that make them well suited to allow museums to play a more open, engaging, and inclusive role today. COVID-19 and closed institutions have emphasized the need and usefulness of being able to use digital media and resources to still provide people with information, entertainment, and social arenas. The thesis will through a detailed survey of the use of Facebook at two Norwegian cultural institutions with regard to both quantity and content, and through interviews conducted among employees highlight challenges, opportunities and developments in the use of social media. This is done with the purpose of documenting its use during a unique time period, assessing its potential and providing insights that may be of benefit in future endeavors.
