Bakgrunn: Over 34 000 mennesker fikk en kreftdiagnose i 2018.
Title: How can nurses prevent weight loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment?
Background: More than 34,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2018. With ever-increasing survival, several of the side effects used for treatment are affected. This may affect the nutritional status of the patients.
Purpose: To obtain research results and other literature to elucidate how nurses can prevent weight loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Method: This bachelor thesis is a literature study. Literature searches have been carried out in the databases Cinahl, PubMed, Medline and Proquest. The most commonly used keywords are cancer patients, chemotherapy, nutrition and nutritional status.
Result: The most commonly reported side effects associated with chemotherapy treatment was nausea, but also taste and odor changes and mouth ulcers. It turns out nutritional guidance was in-demand among patients, and was often completed after treatment ended. Nurses were unsure of their own knowledge and had low self-esteem in contact with patients with nutritional problems.
Conclusion: Nurses can prevent weight loss to the patients group by having good routines for mapping, arrange for the right diet and a good environment among the meal and give nutrition guidance at the right time. Nurses should receive regular courses to increase knowledge around nutrition for the patient group.
