dc.description.abstractSammendrag Innledning: Palliasjon har fokus på best mulig livskvalitet for pasienter med livstruende sykdom, og forebygging av smerter og andre fysiske, psykososiale og eksistensielle problemer. Artikkelen tar for seg hvordan sykepleiere kan bidra til en fredfull og verdig død gjennom god kommunikasjon. Metode: For å undersøke hva sykepleiere vektlegger i kommunikasjon med palliative pasienter, ble det gjennomført intervju med fem sykepleiere på et Hospice. Av hensyn til retningslinjene i forbindelse med Covid-19 pandemien ble intervjuene gjennomført skriftlig i mars 2020. Ved bruk av meningskoding ble intervjuene analysert i tema, undertema og intervjutekst, før funnene ble kodet og satt sammen. Resultat: Resultatene viser stor enighet blant sykepleierne i hva som vektlegges i kommunikasjon med palliative pasienter. Sykepleierne har fokus på at ingen er like og at kommunikasjonen må tilpasses den enkelte pasienten. Ærlig kommunikasjon, kommunikative ferdigheter og være bevisst hvordan man fremstår som sykepleier blir fremhevet. Resultatene viser også utfordringer som; det å bli berørt og hvordan man skal takle å stå i vanskelige situasjoner, sykepleierne møter på. Humor og glede kommer også frem som et funn i studien. Konklusjon: Studien har vist at sykepleierne bidrar til en verdig og fredfull død gjennom å kartlegge behov, tilrettelegge kommunikasjonen til hver enkelt pasient, tørre å snakke om døden og være ærlig. I tillegg viser studien betydningen av non-verbal kommunikasjon og bruk av humor. Dette krever store kommunikative ferdigheter og evnen til å gi av seg selv. Studien har funn som styrkes i form av fag- og forskningslitteratur.
dc.description.abstractAbstract Introduction: The main focus of palliative care is for patients with life-threatening illnesses quality of life and prevention of pain and other physical, psychosocial and existential problems. This article discusses how nurses can contribute to a peaceful and dignified death through good communication. Method: To examine what nurses value in communicating with palliative patients, an interview with five nurses at a hospice was conducted. The interviews were conducted according to the infection control guidelines related to the Covid-19 pandemic, hence the interviews were conducted by written communication in March 2020. The interviews were analyzed in category, sub-category and interview text, before the findings were coded and compiled. Results: The results show an agreement among the nurses in what they emphasized in communication with palliative patients. The nurses focus on the fact that no one is equal and that the communication must be adapted to each patient. Honest communication, communicative skills and being aware of how they appear as a nurse are emphasized. In addition, the results also show challenges the nurses encounter such as; being affected and how to deal with difficult situations. Humor and joy also emerge as a finding in the study. Conclusion: This study has shown that nurses contribute to a peaceful and dignified death by identifying needs, facilitating communication to each patient, daring to talk about death and being honest. In addition, the study shows the importance of non-verbal communication and use of humor. This requires strong communication skills and the ability to bid of themselves. This study has findings that are strengthened in the form of academic and research literature.
